Show overhead picture of the unfinished sculpture of the famous Italian artist Michelangelo. Use it as a visual to talk about the development of our personalities and identity.

Next, spend some time on a discussion of developing values and standards. By doing this we will be establishing the criteria or the foundation of our personality and our identity.

Provide Handout #7: “Values and Standards".

Use the handout to have a class discussion on values and standards. Go to the board. Ask students to give you a list of their values. Then make a list of their standards. Talk about what happens when we don’t follow our values and standards.
