Objective:

The class members will understand the value of being able to communicate their ideas and wishes to their peers as well as to adults.

Supporting Ideas:

  1. Show why good communication skills are essential to develop self-worth.
  2. Show why having self-worth is essential. Show how it relates to a healthier life.
  3. Explain the four basic styles of communication and teach the students how to use them.

Health Standard:

  • Standard 4: Students will use interpersonal communication skills to enhance personal health.
    • Indicator 1: Students will evaluate how communication affects relationships with family, peers, and community.
      • Benchmark A: Demonstrate communication skills that build and maintain healthy relationships.
      • Benchmark B: Choose appropriate communication techniques when interacting with family, peers, and community.
      • Benchmark C: Model effective interpersonal communication skills.
